over the years, i have always tried to keep a journal for almost every reason: self reflection, record keeping, mental health improvement, decluttering of ideas, inspiration, happiness meter, running diary, etc etc. i say "tried" because inevitably, a few days or maybe even a few weeks later, i would loose the notebook, forget about the notebook's existence, or straight up abandon the project altogether.for a while i had given up on the idea of keeping a record of my daily thoughts and emotions.and then i opened "pick me up."what's different about "pick me up" is that the (arguably) toughest part of self reflection is already complete: considering the thought or action you need to capture or consider. adam has crammed a roller coaster of reflections, ideas and provocations that really make you think about feelings and emotions you may have otherwise ignored.i keep mine on my desk at work for times when i'm feeling overwhelmed, overworked, or even just a bit spacey and i find myself going back and forth between old and new entries, contemplating how i was feeling a week, a day, or even a few hours prior.if you've ever been interested in keeping a journal or recording your thoughts and feelings daily, this book is for you. even if you're not interested in keeping a journal or recording your thoughts and feelings daily, you will still find great value in what you're inspired to consider while flipping through the pages.all at once hilarious and heartbreaking, "pick me up" is an essential pick me up and well worthy of picking up.

I was quite excited to receive my very own Pick Me Up book. Upon receiving it, I thought it was a great way to express myself and a neat reminder of when I needed to be uplifted. Especially because I enjoy doodling. My issue with the book is that it keeps asking me to share pages or to market the book by posting passages on social media. Which I understand is important to the author for exposure and sales but as an introvert, I find this disruptive. For example, there is a page where you can write to someone to be thankful for but it suggest that you share it. I think this book can be very intimate but the shameless marketing ruins it. I recommend this book to extraverted teens or adults who are into social media. Cute idea but not as helpful as it could be!

I received this book today, but I already know that's it's going to become a go-to activity book/journal/therapy sesh. Full of creative prompts and drawings, with funny and sad existential humor, Pick Me Up is something you're going to thank yourself for purchasing. Adam JK is an artist who is just straight up super talented at his job, whatever his job is.

I really enjoy using some of the worksheets in here with my high school students. The content isn't too young or too old and my students find it pretty fun.

Kurtz does a great job at creating interactive, fun, and thought provoking pages. I don't usually write in books I own, but this one you have to! I love just opening to a page reading the one line of instructions and then going at it. Helpful to get out of a stuck mindset, to move you forward, all the having a bit of fun. Recommended for those who need a bit of a pick me up!

With his 95 Theses, Martin Luther advanced the radical notion that all Christians could enjoy a direct, personal relationship with God—shattering years of Catholic tradition and obviating the need for intermediaries like priests and saints between the individual believer and God. The text of the Bible, the Word of God itself, Luther argued, revealed the only true path to salvation—not priestly ritual and saintly iconography.

But if words—not iconic images—showed the way to salvation, why didn't religious imagery during the Reformation disappear along with indulgences? The answer, according to Joseph Leo Koerner, lies in the paradoxical nature of Protestant religious imagery itself, which is at once both iconic and iconoclastic. Koerner masterfully demonstrates this point not only with a multitude of Lutheran images, many never before published, but also with a close reading of a single pivotal work—Lucas Cranach the Elder's altarpiece for the City Church in Wittenberg (Luther's parish). As Koerner shows, Cranach, breaking all the conventions of traditional Catholic iconography, created an entirely new aesthetic for the new Protestant ethos.

In the Crucifixion scene of the altarpiece, for instance, Christ is alone and stripped of all his usual attendants—no Virgin Mary, no John the Baptist, no Mary Magdalene—with nothing separating him from Luther (preaching the Word) and his parishioners. And while the Holy Spirit is nowhere to be seen—representation of the divine being impossible—it is nonetheless dramatically present as the force animating Christ's drapery. According to Koerner, it is this "iconoclash" that animates the best Reformation art.
